KISS & Motley Crue Announce Summer Tour: ‘No Fake Bull—t’

KISS and Motley Crue are hitting the road for a co-headlining tour — dubbed simply “The Tour” — this summer, the iconic rock acts announced on Tuesday.

The 40-date North American tour will kick off in Bristow, Va., on July 20 and run through the end of the summer, with the hard rock groups each playing 90-minute sets.

”These guys are the baddest band in the f***ing world,” Motley Crue’s Vince Neil said on stage with both bands at the Roosevelt Hotel on Tuesday. “Our very first tour was with [KISS], 1982. To be able to do it now is amazing.”

”Seeing them on stage, it was obvious back then that this was the next big thing,” KISS’ Paul Stanley added. “We talk about bang for buck, this will be the definition of bang for buck on this tour. If you want to see more bombs and artillery, you’ll have to check out the military.”

Whether or not KISS bassist Gene Simmons’ A&E reality show, “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” will follow the explosive tour was unclear. “Probably. Maybe… not,” he said.

But he had a clear answer to for the pop stars now invading stadiums once filled largely by rock acts.

”We’re sick and tired of girls getting up there with dancers and karaoke tapes in back of them,” Simmons said. “No fake bullshit. Leave that to the Rihanna, Shmianna and anyone who ends their name with an ‘A.’”

Backstage, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee seconded Simmons’ strong opinions.

”No disrespect to Rihanna, she’s a great singer, but we’re in a slump for some shit that has some personality and appeal beyond a bunch of pop stuff that’s floating around out there,” he told Billboard.com. “I’m glad he said that actually because I don’t think i can bear watching another f***ing award show that is just a little bit better than ‘American Idol.’ It’s f***ing pathetic to watch people go out and f***ing karaoke with a bunch of lights and video. It’s all completely watered down.”

”More guitars? There can’t ever be enough,” Motley Crue’s Mick Mars told Billboard.com, asked if the touring world needed a shot of rock. “I’d have 15,000 guitar players on stage.”

Looking back, Lee had fond memories of the bands’ shared ’80s tour, remembering trying to catch the more established KISS members without their makeup backstage.

”I remember, I wanted to see what they really looked like,” he said. “They had bandanas, wrapped around, so we never really saw what they looked like, the whole tour. That was a big thing for me.”

”I still wonder that,” KISS drummer Eric Singer added, laughing.

Singer and Tommy Thayer, both more recent additions to KISS, look forward to touring with Motley Crue for the first time.

”I wasn’t there, I was in the crowd watching,” Thayer said of the previous tour three decades ago.

”Both bands are fans of each other,” Singer added. “Everyone in KISS is a fan of Motley, big time. I remember when ‘Dr. Feelgood’ came out, Paul used to play that record all the time.”

During the press conference, the groups celebrated their own endurance through decades of rock, dubbing themselves, “Elvis on steroids.”

”You may say it doesn’t look like classic rock and roll in the sense of what Elvis did, but all we’ve ever been, both bands, is Elvis on steroids,” Stanley said. “Elvis through a Marshall amplifier.

”We never forget, we were once in the audience seeing bands who let us down. This will be The Tour, that’s what we’re calling it, The Tour. You will be deaf and blinded, you will leave there stumbling out,” he added

Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 23, via Live Nation and Ticketmaster.

The Lost Fingers mise sur des valeurs sûres

MONTRÉAL – Le groupe The Lost Fingers lançait mercredi soir son quatrième album, La Marquise, dans lequel il revisite à sa façon des classiques de la chanson d’ici et d’ailleurs, selon la formule qui l’a fait connaître un peu partout dans le monde.

Dans l’ambiance décontractée du Gainzbar, sur la Plaza Saint-Hubert, Byron Mikaloff, Christian Roberge et Alex Morissette, vêtus tels trois gentlemans, ont offert quelques-unes des pièces qui composent cette nouvelle galette aux accents de jazz manouche.

Une fois de plus, le trio a misé sur des airs connus pour faire danser son public.

Sur La Marquise se côtoient donc des titres aussi variés que Alors on danse, de Stromae, 1990, de Jean Leloup, J’ai vu, de Niagara et Encore et encore, de Francis Cabrel.

Même le succès de Vanessa Paradis, Joe le taxi, s’y trouve.

«Un peu comme sur les autres albums, il y a des plaisirs coupables qu’on voulait absolument avoir, et aussi des suggestions de notre entourage, de notre compagnie de disque ou des gens qu’on rencontre, a raconté Christian pour expliquer comment s’est effectué le choix des morceaux. En France, on nous demande des chansons que les Français connaissent, alors ici, c’est un peu la même chose.»

Pas d’album original

Cinq ans après ses débuts, The Lost Fingers prend toujours plaisir à réarranger les mélodies des autres et n’a pas du tout l’impression d’avoir épuisé le concept qui a fait son succès.

À preuve, les musiciens n’ont jamais considéré la possibilité de concevoir un disque de matériel original.

«C’est vraiment ancré dans les racines du groupe, de reprendre des pièces de façon un peu inusitée, en jazz manouche, a expliqué Christian. On compose tous dans d’autres styles, mais dans ce projet-là, on n’a encore jamais essayé nos compositions.»

Les trois jeunes hommes se réjouissent en outre de voir leur musique voyager, eux qui ont offert des spectacles en Australie, en Suède, en Espagne, en Angleterre et en Colombie au cours des derniers mois.

En France, les artistes ont lancé leurs trois précédents opus en y incluant une partie du contenu de La Marquise.

Nos cousins auront aussi bientôt droit à des reprises de légendes du rock comme Kiss et Metallica, qui devraient être entendues un peu plus tard dans la Belle Province.

«On joue peut-être moins au Québec, mais il y a une forte demande dans d’autres pays, à l’extérieur», a fait valoir Alex.

«Les gens aiment souvent nos versions, a enchaîné Byron. Ils trouvent souvent qu’on améliore l’original, et il y a même des groupes à travers le monde qui reprennent nos versions.»

The Lost Fingers se produira à L’Assomption, au Théâtre Hector-Charland, le 3 mai prochain, et prendra part au Festival des guitares du monde, à Rouyn, le 2 juin.

Le groupe s’envolera ensuite vers la Californie et poursuivra son périple à différents endroits sur la planète jusqu’en novembre.

Lady Gaga Announces Launch Of Born This Way Foundation

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation will launch February 29 with a fete at Harvard University, the singer and her mother and co-founder, Cynthia Germanotta, announced in a statement on Thursday (January 19). BTWF was created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end.

Joining the pop star at Sanders Theatre will be her partners in the endeavor: Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment.

Gaga has long been a staunch supporter of anti-bullying legislation, reportedly meeting with President Obama to discuss the topic in September and visiting the White House in early December to discuss the issue with administration officials. She dedicated her performance of “Hair” at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old fan who took his own life after years of anti-gay harassment. And last year, Gaga toppedDoSomething.org’s list of the most charitable celebrities, in part for her work on behalf of gay rights causes.

“My daughter’s foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be,” Germanotta said. “She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society.”

The Mother Monster’s commitment to the gay community was again recognized Thursday (January 19) with a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the GLAAD Media Awards.The awards recognize fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community across all media. In December, the diva was recognized with the Hero Award by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to LGBT youth.

During acceptance speech at Trevor Project Live, Gaga touched on her wishes to someday make bullying a hate crime. “I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools,” Gaga said. “I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there’s always somebody that’s listening. But I want them to know they’re listening before it gets too late.”

Katy Perry may not have been in the house for the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, but the five-time winner certainly appreciated all the trophies from afar.

Perry had been up for seven awards and managed to take home five of them at the fan-voted awards show, hosted by “The Big Bang Theory” leading lady Kaley Cuoco. So, what did Perry win? She nabbed Favorite TV Guest Star for her cameo on “How I Met Your Mother,” Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year for “E.T” featuring Kanye West, Favorite Music Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and Favorite Tour Headliner.

“THANK U to every1 who voted for me for the @peopleschoice tonight! We won so many!” she tweeted. “Now I need to get more books 2 successfully display them!”

After her split from Russell Brand had been confirmed, Perry later revealed that she’d skip the awards show. She has been lying low since the New Year’s announcement that she and her husband of one year would be divorcing.

But she wasn’t the only absent winner excited for all the love from her fans.Taylor Swift was home in Music Town when she nabbed the prize for Favorite Country Artist. “Thank you so much for my People’s Choice Award! Favorite Country Artist! PARTY!!!” she tweeted from her home in Nashville. “Seriously- thank you for voting.”

Other big winners of the night included Emma Stone, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ and Demi Lovato, who not only took home the trophy for Favorite Pop Artist but also performed her song “Give Your Heart a Break” during the show.

Nickelback au Centre Bell en avril

Le groupe rock Nickelback sera en spectacle le 21 avril prochain au Centre Bell de Montréal. Il s’agira de la première date canadienne de sa tournée nord-américaine, Here and Now, qui débutera le 10 avril en Illinois.

Les billets pour Montréal seront en vente dès le 21 janvier à midi.

Les groupes Bush, Seether et My Darknest Days joindront la formation pour cette tournée qui compte 39 dates.

La dernière tournée de Nickelback, Dark Horse World Tour en 2009, avait connu un vif succès avec 120 spectacles et deux millions de spectateurs.

Avec Here and Now, faisant la promotion de son dernier album du même titre, on pourra entendre les derniers succès comme When We Stand Togerther et Bottoms Up.

L’album Here and Now s’est hissé en deuxième position du Billboard Top 200 dès sa sortie, le 21 novembre dernier.

The arrival of hip-hop princess Blue Ivy has caused quite a stir in Hollywood. The firstborn child of Beyoncé and Jay-Z has been lavished with more than $1.5 million in gifts — from a rocking horse made of gold to a “fantasy” crib fit for royalty.

According to the NY Post, Blue Ivy’s dad purchased a handmade horse from Japanese Jeweler Ginza Tanaka for a staggering $600K.

For naptime, Blue will rest her sleepy head inside her $20K crib from PoshTots, and for mealtime, the tiny diva will eat from her $15K highchair decorated with Swarovski crystals.

These are just a few of the ultra-chic baby gifts Beyoncé and Jay-Z have splurged on for their little one — which totals $1.5 million.

Blue was whisked away from Lenox Hill Hospital to her home on Tuesday, after a weekend filled with top-notch security, military-like precision to keep the family away from paparazzi, and annoyed parents in the hospital’s maternity ward.

Tony Iommi souffre d’un cancer

MONTRÉAL — Le guitariste de la formation Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, est atteint d’un lymphome.

Le groupe Black Sabbath a utilisé sa page Facebook officielle (facebook.com/BlackSabbath) pour annoncer la maladie de Tony Iommi, lundi après-midi.

Le rocker souffre d’un lymphome (un cancer du système lymphatique dont la maladie de Hodgkin fait partie), mais on ne sait pas quel organe est touché.

«Les membres du groupe souhaitent que tout le monde envoie des ondes positives au guitariste. Tony Iommi travaille actuellement avec ses médecins afin d’établir la meilleure stratégie de traitement. Le “Iron Man” du rock demeure optimiste et déterminé à se rétablir complètement», a écrit le groupe.

De plus, Black Sabbath a souligné que ce diagnostic ne mettait pas en péril le projet de sortir un album – le premier en 33 ans –, l’automne prochain.

Ainsi qu’il est précisé sur la page: «Ozzy Osbourne (voix), Tony Iommi (guitare), Geezer Butler (basse) et Bill Ward (percussions) sont en train d’écrire et d’enregistrer l’album. [...] Des informations supplémentaires seront publiées au fur et à mesure.»

Les membres de la formation n’ont pas précisé si leur tournée mondiale – qui doit débuter le 18 mai prochain, à Moscou, en Russie – serait maintenue.
