The “Mo Bamba” singer has recently been making waves, and this brief but powerful song is no exception.
Few artists in hip-hop over the past few years have represented unadulterated hype and intensity quite like Sheck Wes.
The Harlem MC is renowned for his great bangers, including “Mo Bamba” and “Live Sheck Wes,” and for injecting much aggression into every track he rides. His third single of the year, “PAIN!” was just released.
The rapid and bouncy trap rhythm is what gives the tune most of its aggressive basis, similar to “LFG!” from back in October. But unlike his other hits, the “PAIN!” instrumental doesn’t include as many distorted synths.
His verse delivery is also much more subdued in this song. He allows his ad-libs to run wild and amp up the instrumental rather than channeling his wrath into his bars. Furthermore, Sheck is working with a very intriguing contrast. He is, after all, both a well-known rapper and a skilled basketball player. At this time, he must be an expert player in two positions.

More particularly, “PAIN! instrumental “is as subdued as a hard trap song could be and nocturnal. Although there are a few flimsy and shimmering keys that offer some hints of melody or tones, the drums dominate the background noise.
The booming bass that unites those frequencies, the quick hi-hats, the dry claps, and everything else are all somewhat distorted. It might make listeners think of some of his earlier tracks, including “YKTS.”
The 24-year-flow old’s on “PAIN!” is considerably more restrained than some of his biggest moments, as was previously observed. It doesn’t lessen the hostility or the intensity, either. It gives the song more danger and assurance overall.
The enthusiasm of Sheck’s shouts is contagious, and the ad-libs float behind them even if they are less noticeable in the mix. He keeps demonstrating how catchy his vibe is by teaming up with Dreamville on songs like “Stick,” which is proof positive of this.
